Role of Cobalamin
Cobalamin plays a vital role in several physiological processes, including energy production at the cellular level, DNA synthesis, nervous system function, red blood cell formation, and the metabolism of proteins and fats. It is typically absorbed in the lower part of the small intestine after binding with intrinsic factor, a protein secreted by the pancreas. However, recent research has shown that passive absorption of cobalamin can also take place along various parts of the digestive tract in dogs and cats.
Cobalamin Deficiency in Pets
Deficiency in cobalamin may result from conditions that interfere with its levels in the body, the production of intrinsic factor, or the absorption of the cobalaminintrinsic factor complex. Common causes include exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, chronic pancreatitis, dysbiosis, inflammatory bowel disease, gastrointestinal tumors, and inherited disorders affecting nutrient absorption.

For animals under 10 kg, the recommended dosage is half a capsule per day or one capsule every other day. Pets weighing between 10 and 20 kg should receive one capsule daily, while those over 20 kg should be given two capsules per day.
